How to convert a loft office to a guest annexe

16th May 2022

Many people recently converted their lofts into home offices amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, when work from home became more common. It allowed them to put their loft to good use.

Having said that, sometimes, you want to do more than that and use your space in a way that allows you to make the most of it. As restrictions now ease down, you might want to consider converting your home office into a guest bedroom. This is especially useful if you have visitors coming in often.

Here are a few tips that can help you convert your home office into a guest annexe.

Place the desk under the window

If you want to make the best use of your space, then you can place the desk under the window. This way, you can use the loft as a home office, as well as a space for guests to stay when they come over. Placing the desk under the window means that you can use it without it being the focal point of the room. The best part is that you can work in natural light too.

Separate the areas

If your loft is larger than usual, it would be a sensible decision to separate the space. You can allot one area for the guest annexe and the other area for the home office. This doesn’t necessarily mean that you add a wall in the center to separate the two areas. That will only use up more space, making things very inconvenient. To separate the space, you can place a large piece of furniture here or even a room divider.

Use multi-purpose furniture

If you don’t have a large enough loft, then it isn’t feasible to separate the two areas. So you can use multi-purpose furniture here. For example, you could use your desk to place a laptop for working or a TV when guests come to stay over. You can even get a comfortable office chair on which you can work. When guests come to stay, they can use that chair too. Similarly, a sofa set that you can easily convert into a bed is also a great idea. This way, you can save up on a lot of space.

Ensure there is space for storage

Even if your loft space is small, make sure to arrange for storage space. When guests come to stay, they usually have a lot of things with them. Separate storage space will only make things more organised. This way, you won’t have to worry about things getting messy. Storage space is even more important when using your loft for dual purposes.

No matter what you do with your loft conversion in London, make sure that you plan adequately beforehand to put your space to best use. It needs to be a highly functional space that works for you, your family, and your guests when they come to stay with you.
